Wow, it's been a long time since I've blogged. Moving back was a BIG pain in the ass. I really just wanted to kill myself instead of dealing w/my mountain of stuff/junk. I've been back since 9/9 and I still haven't finished unpacking. Not that I really tried.

On 9/28, which is just 3 days ago, I purchased a new puppy from a pet store. He's a Jack Russel/Chihuahua mix at 2.5 months and I couldn't resist bringing him home. It's not like me to get a non-Maltese from a pet shop instead of breeder, but I couldn't stop thinking about him. So I bought him and took him home, and noticed he had tapeworms. But all is fine now after an injection from the vet. Here are some pics of him and I'm trying to document the change of color of his paws. I'm doing this because I noticed from my other Maltese that their paws change from all pink to at least partly black when they reach adulthood. And I'm crazy.

I feel pretty bad for not blogging for so many days. I've been insanely stressed because of the pending move. After the Penske rental prices went up so drastically, my bf & I tried to look for another company that can offer a comparable price we were quoted by Penske a month ago. We finally found Budget, and made a reservation to move this Friday (today!!). But the rental location just called me 2 days ago and said they had no truck! I thought it so fucked up to give people such a short notice since I made the reservation almost 2 weeks ago. Since I rent an apartment in a high rise, I also have to schedule our move out in order to reserve the elevator. That really messed me up. I mean, what the hell is a reservation for if you're not guaranteed anything? So I had to reschedule everything and pay an extra day of rent because my building won't let me move out on the weekends or the holidays (labor day). So now, I'm set to move on the coming Tuesday. And god I hope there's gonna be a truck for me. Other than that, we've had to sell a lot of our larger furniture. The cheap stuff is going quickly, but the more expensive stuff, which also happen to be the largest items still have not been sold. On top of that, my right eye suddenly got really poofy when I woke up (like an eye infection almost), and I was totally freaked out. Since I feel so helpless and things seemed so out of my control, I coped by testing out at least 10-20 pieces of software in the past few days. I know this sounds kinda weird, but software is much more controllable than my life at this point. With the given options, they usually do what I tell them to do (the keyword is "usually"). So here's what I've messed around with:

  • JAlbum  *FREE*

  • Ultra Edit

  • ExplorerPlus

  • xplorer²

  • PocoMail

  • The Bat

  • Incredimail

  • ACA Capture Pro

  • SnagIt

  • Total Uninstall

  • Encrypted FTP *FREE*

  • Ewido Security Suite

  • Master Converter

  • ACDSee

  • BlogJet

  • Kolorgenerator *FREE*

  • Top Style Pro

  • Free Download Manager *FREE*

  • Notepad+++ *FREE*

  • Visual Thesaurus

  • Acronis True Image

  • Rename Master *FREE*

There may be others I didn’t list because I probably erased them from my hard drive and I don’t remember their names cuz they sucked. I’m not gonna bother writing a review for each of them. First, because I’m lazy. Second, I may not have tested them thoroughly if I didn’t find them useful or interesting right after install. Third, I have not used them long enough to make a judgement (although some of them were revisits). The ones I would recommend to others or worth checking out are the colored ones on the list. All of them are pretty good software, but maybe not exceptional. The ones I highlighted I would definitely recommend to friends.

Oh, I just forgot to mention that other than my moving & health woes, I actually had a undetectable trojan released onto my computer when I was uninstalling Kaspersky. It was hiding so well from all the virus scans (Kaspersky, BitDefender, McAfee, Norton, and all the big anti-virus names you can think of), that I had no choice but to reformat my C drive and do it ALL OVER AGAIN! After everything was set and done, my computer functioned much better (it was getting quirky before). But when my bf ran Ewido on my computer when everything seemed fine, it found 200+ infected objects (such as worms, spywares, keyloggers, and trojans). Now that sounds very scary as I always have a good antivirus program, am behind a firewall, only use Firefox, and run Microsoft AntiSpyware, Spyware Blaster, & Spybot on my computer religiously. That made me extremely paranoid and made me wonder if a person who is as anal as me still have so much gunk on my computer, how much crap would there be on a normal person’s computer?

Free Image Hosting

I found this place that listed a few solutions to hosting images for free. Although I don't really need it, I'm gonna try at least one of them out. Will probably write some kind of half-assed review when I'm done with them, hehe.

UPDATE:
Whew, that was fast!

Ok, I first tried OurMedia.org because its homepage boasted "We provide free storage and free bandwidth for your videos, audio files, photos, text or software. Forever. No catches." That sounded pretty good to me. But shortly after the registration process, I found out I also needed an account at archive.org, which quickly turned me off. But for trying's sake, I registered there as requested. When all was said and done, I discovered that images over 320px wide are automatically scaled down. WTF??? Unlimited this and that but you scale down all my shit? Ridiculous!! I give it a thumbs down, even just for the double registration process.

Next I tried Flickr, which quite a few people are probably familiar with already. When I clicked to sign-up, I was immediately prompted to sign-in with my Yahoo username & password. Albeit most people have a Yahoo ID (including me), I didn't like the fact that you had to sign in Yahoo before you can register at Flickr (you also have to sign in through Yahoo every time to log into Flickr). Flickr's interface doesn't look very attractive (I'm very superficial when it comes to all things). However, it was easy to use and understand, and you can email pictures to them as a form of uploading. There's also a tool (it's actually a registry entry) that allows you to use Windows Web Publisher to directly upload your images to Flickr from explorer. On top of that, there's an uploader program you can install to do the same thing. All of this is nice and useful, but there's a limit of 20MB of bandwidth per month and a 5MB limit per photo (the website never specifically stated exactly how much total storage space you can have, and those limits are really not enough if you have high quality images). The maximum image size a free account will display is 1024x768. If you have a 4+ megapixel camera, you would definitely need to resize your photos before uploading them, or opt for a paid account. Flickr is ad-supported, so you will see a list of text ads from Yahoo on the side. One thing I would most like to see is an option to allow uploads via FTP.

The next one I tried is Zoto. Their site looks a lot better than Flickr IMO (more Mac like). Registration was quick and painless. Features include email to upload, an uploader program, 2GB of storage space, and no limit on uploads. I couldn't find information on how much bandwidth you can have. Zoto will display the original size of your images (I've tried 3072x2304 images from my 7.2 megapixel camera and it displays fine). Zoto will also generate a custom size image for users to download. I like the simple url to your photo/homepage at Zoto, which is "username.zoto.com" vs. "www.flickr.com/photos/username" for Flickr, which must be explicity setup in your account settings, and the link did not start working immediately. Like Flickr though, Zoto didn't allow FTP uploads, but its interface is more attractive & intuitive, and I don't remember seeing any ads. Couple things that are better about Flickr though is their large community and low-price pro membership. Zoto's premium account costs almost twice as much and has more limits.

I looked up a few other image hosting sites listed (and revisited some other ones I've used in the past, like ImageShack, Photobucket), but none of them attracted me enough to make me wanna sign up. I took another quick look at Google's Hello. It sounds interesting, but the fact that I must install something to use it turned me away. Plus FastStone Image Viewer is better than Hello's sister software Picasa. Although I frequently install stuff to try them out, Hello was not one of them. So in conclusion, I liked Zoto the best as a free image host, but it's not perfect.

What I'd like to see in a single package (for free):
  • Handsome & easy-to-use interface
  • FTP upload
  • Email to upload
  • 1GB+ of storage
  • File size limit above 5MB
  • Easy to remember url for my photo page
  • 100MB+ bandwidth per month
  • Quick sign-up & sign-in process
I only took a quick look at these sites and uploaded a few pics to test them out, so I may well have missed some stuff. Please, if you've ever used these services and think I'm completely wrong about something, or have used other ones I did not mention (I'm sure there are many out there) that you think are way better, your suggestions are very welcome here. =)

Evil Meter - Why can't I be more evil?

I am 46% Asshole/Bitch.
Part Time Asshole/Bitch.
I may think I am an asshole or a bitch, but the truth is I am a good person at heart. Yeah sure, I can have a mean streak in me, but most of the people I meet like me.

How evil are you? Not evil enough!

Google Talk

Finally got Trillian to work with the newly released Google Talk. Here's a link that tells you how to set up a Jabber-enabled chat client (other than Google Talk) to work w/their servers. Gotta give it a try! If anyone here still needs a Gmail invite, feel free to leave a message and I'll be glad to send one your way. But as I read in an article, don't think anyone would be needing them anymore because Gmail is open to the public starting today.

I'm quite amazed that I actually have lots to write on this blog! Must be good for my bf cuz he won't have to hear all this boring shit from me as often LOL!

Bunnies, bunnies...& moving back

Found this website today featuring pictures of bunnies interacting w/other animals. It's soooo adorable. I wish my bunnies were litter-trained so they can get the run of the house w/my doggies. I'm also contemplating on whether to spay my bunnies when I get back to L.A.

Talk about moving, I really need to get my ass of the sofa and start selling some stuff or get packing! I'm so lazy it's unbelievable. Another thing's that's pissing me off is how the cost of renting a Penske truck can jump from $2-300 to $500+ in just a couple of days!! I seriously should've made the reservation when I first checked the price, AHHHHH!!!

I wish MindSay would let me backdate some of my entries and let me edit the code for my blog. But nothing's perfect I guess...
